Walkeshwar Temple
Considering that the Hindu faith is the most popular in India, it should come as no surprise that Mumbai is full of temples dedicated to some of the different Gods that play an important role in the Hindu faith. One of the most famous of the Hindu temples in Mumbai is arguably, Walkeshwar Temple.

Walkeshwar Temple was built in honor of the quite famous Hindu God, Shiva. The temple itself is tucked away on the highest point of Mumbai, in Walkeshwar. It should not be entirely too hard to find the temple as it is located near the prominent Malabar Hill area of South Mumbai. The temple is also right near the Banganga Tank, both landmarks being famous because of the epic tale, "The Ramayana." The Banganga Tank in particular has a lot to do with The Ramayana'S main character, Rama. Legend has it that Rama was passing through the area on a quest, when he became thirsty. In order to combat his thirst, Rama shoots an arrow into the ground and water begins to erupt out. The tank is now believed to be filled by the very same hole that Rama had made.

Walkeshwar Temple is definitely a holy place for those of the Hindu faith; therefore, the temple receives many of the Hindu denomination every year. However, being that it is a famous temple, Walkeshwar Temple attracts people of all denominations, some for the religious aspects, others just want to see the true splendor of the temple; either way though, the temple is usually busy every month, all year. The most active times for the temple are during the Full Moon and New Moon.
