St. Thomas Cathedral
One thing is for certain, if you are of a Hindu or Catholic faith, you definitely will not have a hard time finding a place of worship as there are temples and churches everywhere. However, what if you are a member of the Anglican faith, where would you go to attend worship services? The St. Thomas Cathedral is not only a famous church in Mumbai, but it is also a famous Anglican church. Aside from being a famous Anglican church, St. Thomas Cathedral is also the very first Anglican Church to be built in Mumbai. The church is seated perfectly in the Fort region of Mumbai and receives a large number of visitors every year.
The St. Thomas Cathedral is fairly old, with the construction of the church being completed just short of 300 years ago, in 1718. If it is not obvious with the name, the St. Thomas Cathedral gathers its name from one of Christ's disciples, St. Thomas. St. Thomas is noted for traveling to the southern parts of India, in order to establish a foundation for the spread of Christianity in that area. The church was built by the British and, in fact, there are a number of Britons buried within the church. Otherwise, the church does boast a cemetery where generals and other individuals are properly buried.
