St Michael's Church
Yes, it is true that the Hindu faith is the largest denomination followed in Mumbai; however, there are populations of other denominations as well. With different denominations come different buildings for worshipping, as this is the case with St. Michael's Church. This church was, and still is, catered to the Catholic faith living in Mumbai. The church is called St. Michael's Church; however, most locals to the area refer to the church as Mahim Church because the church is located in Mahim. St. Michael's Church has been through quite a few centuries and has seen its fair share of Mumbai's distinct history.

It is safe to say that this church is antiquated, mainly due to the fact that the church was built in 1534, which is well over 400 years ago. However, the original church was built in 1534, and since then has been rebuilt a number of times. As of now, the last rebuilding of the church occurred in 1973. Antonio do Porto is said to have been the original builder of St. Michael's Church, although it is questioned by some historians. Throughout history, the church has been destroyed, rebuilt, and given a multitude of different names; however, today it is known as St. Michael's Church.

As of today, the church is most famous for Novenas. Many Catholics believed that their wishes would be granted if they paid their respects to the Virgin Mary for nine Wednesdays in a row. Now, it has become custom for church members to meet every Wednesday for service because of what was just mentioned. Wednesday is also known as Novena, which is where the name, and event, came from. Many people from around the world flock to St. Michael's Church in order to partake in the Novenas that are held their every Wednesday.
