Prince of Wales Museum
Located in the western Indian metropolis of Mumbai, lies the famous Prince of Wales Museum. This museum in particular is actually a prominent part of 20th century India, because it was named after the Prince of Wales, who visited Mumbai in the early part of the century. Anyone who knows Mumbai will most likely know about, or have even visited, the Prince of Wales Museum because it is located right where all of the action is, South Mumbai. South Mumbai is home to quite a few things to do and is responsible for a lot of the tourism that comes to Mumbai every year.

The Prince of Wales, upon his visit to Mumbai (although then it was called Bombay), actually laid the foundation stone of the structure that would soon be known as the Prince of Wales Museum in 1905. The actual museum itself was conceived in 1904, but the museum was not actually completed until 1915. Sadly, the museum never sought museum purposes until the 1920's because it was used during World War I as a Military Hospital. The Prince of Wales Museum eventually gained the name of "Chhatrapti Shivaji Maharj Vastu Sangrahalaya."

Seated right in front of the Jehangir Art Museum and right near the Gateway of India, the Prince of Wales Museum sits neatly on three acres of land, surrounded by beautiful flora. The museum caters mainly to Natural History, Art, and Archaeology; however, there are other sections, they just are not as prominent. More than 50,000 artifacts and other historical pieces are on display within the museum. A forestry section is also part of the museum, being composed of fossils, rocks, minerals, and trees; a great geological view into the history of India. The museum is growing with each and every year, with two new galleries emerging in 2008, so a visit is definitely in order.
