Things To Do
Nehru Planetarium
Visiting a planetarium in India can be a bit confusing for some visitors because there are four planetariums total in India; however, they are all named after the same guy. That guy is Jawaharlal Nehru, who was India's very first prime minister. Three of the planetariums share the same name, which is Nehru Planetarium, while the last one is called Jawahar Planetarium. While these planetariums are located in Bangalore, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Allahabad, our focus is going to remain on the Nehru Planetarium that is located in Mumbai. Naturally, it should not come as a surprise that Nehru Planetarium is located in Nehru Centre.
As if Mumbai needs any more attractions, as the metropolis is already packed full of them, yet the Nehru Planetarium definitely deserves mention as it draws in a massive amount of tourists every year. The Nehru Planetarium is fairly new compared to some of the other attractions of Mumbai, coming about in March of 1977. Since it was commissioned by Indira Gandhi back in 1977, the planetarium has grown tremendously, and so has Nehru Centre, where the planetarium is located. The planetarium has become a meeting ground for scientists and their research, based mainly on Astronomy.
Due to the fact that many different scientists flock to Nehru Planetarium throughout the year to discuss astronomy, holds lectures, and so on and so forth, many students find this to be a perfect learning opportunity. The planetarium features a number of different things such as viewing lunar and solar eclipses when they occur, multiple telescopes scattered throughout the grounds of the planetarium, and many other space related activities to entertain just about anyone. There is also a number of shows that are staples in the planetarium's schedule, and even a miniaturized planetarium that is portable enough that it can be taken out to view certain anomalies in the sky.
