Mumbai Festivals
India itself draws in a huge crowd of visitors and tourists every single year. Furthermore, the big, bustling metropolis of Mumbai brings in a huge portion of these visitors. Mumbai seems to offer a broad spectrum of different things to do that can tickle the interest of just about anyone, young or old. One of the biggest attractions that Mumbai has to offer is the many different festivals that take place every year.

Mumbai is home to many different cultures, ethnicities, and religions. Naturally, a great deal of different festivals and celebrations have emerged throughout history to honor different traditions that might be held for each different set of criteria. Some festivals might honor a specific god or gods while another festival may honor one specific culture. Furthermore, there are festivals that cover a broader range of audience such as music festivals, art festivals, movie festivals, and similar occasions. Mumbai has grown to be a very diverse city, and if one really wants to see the diversity for his or herself, then check out any one of the many festivals.

One of the most popular festivals, celebrated not just in Mumbai, but all over the world, is Diwali. Diwali is especially important to the Hindu faith because it marks the coming home of Rama, who was the main character in the famous epic tale, "The Ramayana." Aside from the celebration of Diwali, there is also the Ganesh Chaturthi Festival, which is a famous celebration of the god, Ganesha. Ganesha is widely believed to be the god of wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune. Diwali and Ganesh Chaturthi are just two of the many cultural and religious festivals that go on in Mumbai.

More recent festivals that take place in Mumbai every year cater more towards the performing arts crowd. Bollywood, which is Mumbai's very successful film industry, plays a huge role in the popularity, as well as the economic success of Mumbai. Therefore, one of the most popular festivals in the performing arts area is the Kala Ghoda Festival, which takes place in the Kala Ghoda region of South Mumbai. At this festival, just about any kind of art can be found on display, from music and singing, to literature and speeches.

One thing is for certain, you probably will never find a more diverse amount of festivals than in Mumbai.
