Mumbai Cuisine
As with most any city or country, in the metropolitan city of Mumbai, India, you will find a unique cuisine of different foods that seem to fit the culture perfectly. Mumbai is packed full of different recipes, from the regular home-cooked meal, to street vendors and fast food. Typically, the average meal in Mumbai will contain one or more of key ingredients such as rice, chapattis, curries, curd, and of course, vegetables.

As mentioned previously, you can find street vendors and fast food restaurants on most any of the busy streets in Mumbai. One of the more famous foods that hold a high reputation among fast food eaters in Mumbai is Bhel Puri. Bhel Puri is one of the many types of chaat, or a plate loaded with different types of snacks. The dish, in its entirety, is essentially puffed rice covered in tamarind sauce, and surrounded by potatoes and chopped onions. Even though Bhel Puri is considered a fast food, many Mumbai locals rave about its nutritional qualities and low fat content.

Mumbai and India as a whole, share a diet rich in exotic foods such Khicheri; a traditional dish consisting of mainly different types of lentils and rice. Other popular Mumbai dishes include Dhan Sak, Min Vela Curry, Kamag Kakri, and a variety of other dishes. Typical of most Indian platters is the presence of different types of fish and oddly enough, coconut. One of the trademarks of most any Mumbai cuisine is the exotic ingredients, but most of all, the spicy nature that dances in the back of the throat.

Homemade dishes are quite common in Mumbai, but there are also a large number of restaurants available, from cheap to expensive, from vegetarian to a diet rich in meat; the restaurants in Mumbai run a broad spectrum of different possibilities.
