Marine Drive
Marine Drive
Mumbai is a fast-paced, metropolis located on the west coast of India. Taking into account that Mumbai is on the coast, one would expect that there is plentiful access to the ocean. This assumption is correct, and one of the most beautiful oceanfront scenes can be found on Marine Drive. However, the locals may not refer to it as Marine Drive, but rather as Sonapur, or as its original name of Nataji Subhash Chandra Bode Road.

Marine Drive is a boulevard that spans around three kilometers along the coastline of South Mumbai. The drive is rather massive when compared to the average road, running six lanes wide along the shape of a "C." Marine Drive is situated along the Arabian Sea in what is more or less a bay. The drive is quite beautiful in the daytime, lined with palm trees, but at night, the city is said to look like pears stringed together; therefore, the drive was nicknamed "Queen's Necklace." Art deco buildings cover the beautiful seafront along this drive.

For anyone looking to take a lovely walk, Marine Drive is definitely the place for it. However, for those who are looking to actually make a permanent home out of Marine Drive, it certainly is not the cheapest place in the world to live. In fact, some sources have this location has the fourth most expensive place to live in the world. A lot of India's top celebrities reside in luxurious houses along Marine Drive, which should not be hard at all to tell just by looking.

Locals and tourists alike benefit from the number of events and activities that take place along Marine Drive. A few of the most popular events being the 1988 French Festival, the 2004 Mumbai Marathon, and even an Airshow in 2004 as well. Lastly, if no event is taking place, anyone can stroll to the north side of the drive and check out Chowpatty Beach.
