Mani Bhavan Museum
Definitely one of the focal points in all of Mumbai, the Mani Bhavan Museum is located in the Gamdevi area, on Laburnum Street. One of the most famous facts about the museum is that famous historical figure, Gandhi, lived there for a good deal of time, and actually used as a headquarters for all of his activities. Mani Bhavan Museum is a museum dedicated to Gandhi and everything he did, sometimes being referred to as the "Gandhi Museum" by some. One thing is for sure however, one should definitely pay this famous museum a visit on any trip to Mumbai.
The Mani Bhavan Museum was actually a house before it was transformed into a museum, and upon looking at any picture or visiting the museum, it is still apparent that the museum was once a house. This house stood a massive three stories tall and was owned by Shri Revashankar Jhaveri, who was a very close friend of Gandhi. From the years 1917 to 1934, whenever Gandhi visited Mumbai, Jhaveri would allow Gandhi to stay in his house. Gandhi, in 1921, fasted for four days in an attempt to bring peace back to the Mumbai, in which he stayed at the Jhaveri house.
The Mani Bhavan Museum is literally filled with different and interesting things pertaining to Gandhi. For instance, if one steps out onto the terrace, he or she will come across a plaque made of pure bronze commemorating the site where, in 1932, Gandhi was arrested. Also interesting to know is that Gandhi utilized the terrace as a site to say his prayers, and even sleep. All of the events that Gandhi was made famous for can be seen in dioramas scattered all throughout the house. There is also an auditorium and even a library, both featuring different films and books pertaining to Gandhi.
