Madh Island
There are many islands off the coast of Mumbai, with the most famous one among tourists being Elephanta Island, which is famous for the Elephanta Caves. However, that may be up for question when you compare it with Madh Island. Some people do not even consider Madh Island to be an island, mainly because the only thing that separates it from the Mumbai mainland is an extremely small creek. Whenever the tide is low, between the island and the Mumbai mainland, one can almost walk directly across without any trouble at all; hence why most people do not consider Madh Island to be, in fact, an island.

Madh Island is home to people of several different communities, but probably the most noted community on the island, is actually a village, the Erangal village. Most people are intimidated when they hear about a village on an island, but no worries, the Erangal village is mostly composed of farmers who merely plant their crops, as peaceful as can be, in the adjacent farmlands. Another prominent group of people who reside on the island are the East Roman Catholic Kolis. The island is actually home to a great variety of different people, although some are more known than others.

For those seeking a vacation, Madh Island is definitely a prime place to do it. Cottages, sometimes very elaborate ones, are scattered across the landscape of Madh Island, making it a perfect vacation destination. For those bound to a hotel, The Retreat and The Resort are the two hotels that Madh Island has to offer. The Church of St, Bonaventure is one of the most famous landmarks of Madh Island and draws in a number of visitors every year, but that pales in comparison to the number of visitors that the annual Erangal Feast brings in every year.
