One thing is for certain, the Haji Ali brings in a large number of Muslim and non-Muslim followers, making it one of the largest attractions in Mumbai. The Haji Ali also has a very old, historical background that goes back well over 500 years.
As mentioned above, the Haji Ali goes back more than 500 years, being completed in 1431. The rich Muslim who built the Haji Ali, was named Haji Ali, so you can see where the tomb gets its name. There are many different legends behind the man, Haji Ali, one being that he simply vanished off the face of the Earth on route to Mecca. Another legend is that the site of the Mosque is the very same site in which Haji Ali drowned. Ragrdless of what happened, Haji Ali built the Mosque more than 500 years ago, and it still stands today, being visited by thousands upon thousands of people.
The Mosque itself was built using a combination of Indian and Islamic styles of architecture, which combined to make a truly beautiful structure. The main hall of Haji Ali is full of massive marble pillars, each containing a number of mirrors. The mosque is also home to a massive tower that stands more than 80 feet high. Many Muslims consider the Haji Ali to be one of the most religious places for a Muslim, aside from Mecca of course. Well over 30,000 Muslims flock to the Haji Ali every Thursday and Friday who come to pay their respects.
