Colaba Causeway
To the locals around Mumbai, Colaba Causeway is better known as Shahid Bhagat Singh Road. This road is actually a very busy road that connects the infamous Old Woman's Island and Colaba; both very distinct Mumbai areas. Looking at the Colaba Causeway in a more general view, it is located in the very busy region of Mumbai known as South Mumbai. This street is an extremely urban, higher class neighborhood, always teeming with people. One thing is for certain, the Colaba Causeway can definitely keep anybody entertained, not just because of the actual causeway, but also because it is very near to some of Mumbai's most famous landmarks such as the Gateway of India, and the magnificent and luxurious Taj Mahal Palace and Tower.

Way back in the nineteenth century, Colaba island began seeing a very busy streak with boats and people constantly ferrying through which began to cause problems. To combat these problems, what is now known as Colaba Causeway was built and completed by 1838 as a land barrier between Colaba and Old Woman's Island. The causeway began to see massive gains in development and the project of widening it occurred over the course of three years, from 1861 to 1863.

Colaba Causeway today essentially caters to both residential and consumer needs. Back in the early 1900's, a massive residential area was built, that today more than 400 families call home. Aside from all of its residents, Colaba Causeway is also one of the number one destinations for art enthusiasts, as there are a number of different art galleries, including the National Gallery of Modern Art. There is also numerous market type vendors located on the causeway, selling everything from average household goods, to high-end electronics. Lastly, where there are a good deal of people lurking, there is going to be a number of restaurants and other eateries, Colaba Causeway is no exception.
