Bombay Natural History Society
The BNHS or Bombay Natural History Society is one of the largest organizations in India that runs strictly without the government, devoted to conservation of nature, habitats, and the environments that house it all. The society itself is well over a hundred years old, and throughout its founding has always been a huge name when it comes to preserving the natural aspect of India, as well as planning ahead for India's future generations by establishing different methods of protecting the environment and finding useful ways of utilizing the available natural resources. The entire foundation of the society is based on scientific research, which is used in all aspects of the society.

More than a century ago, on September 15, 1883, there was a meeting between two Indian individuals and six British individuals, all of whom were interested in studying the natural history of India. It was also on this date, that these eight significant individuals formed what is known, and still known today, as the Bombay Natural History Museum (even though the city is now called Mumbai, the society never changed its name). Every single month, these eight people would meet together and essentially examine each other's findings and moreover, conduct scientific research.

The Bombay Natural History Society, since being erected in 1883, still exists and thrives today. The Prince of Wales Museum built a building dedicated solely for the society use, called the Hornbill House. To this day, operations are still conducted out of this building and are the official address of the BHNS. Obviously, the foundation has grown significantly since it was founded, and now receives funding from its own members, supporting corporations and organizations, as well as through the governments as well. The BHNS is most definitely a stable in both Mumbai and Indian culture, since its beginning, and for generations to come.
