About Mumbai
For anyone looking for a completely diverse city, then look no further than the bustling Indian metropolis of Mumbai. Mumbai has an extremely rich history that goes all the way back to the Stone Age, seeing many different rulers and undergoing many different transformations. Contemporary Mumbai is a gleaming city that sits right on the western coast of India, bordered by seven different islands.

What better to start with, than the people who make up the absolutely massive population of Mumbai? These residents are typically referred to as two different names; Mumbaikars and Bombayite. The people of Mumbai are probably some of the nicest, most hospitable people one would ever come across. Mumbaikars live in an excessively fast paced city, where many different customs and religions are practiced.

Speaking of religions, did you know that there are a vast multitude of different religions practiced in Mumbai? The most popular religion in India is, by far, Hinduism, which makes up more than eighty percent of the population. Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism, Islam, and Zoroastrianism are some of the other popular religions also practiced in India, and Mumbai.

There are three languages that are commonly spoke in Mumbai, and they are Marathi, Hindi, and English. Marathi is the official language of Mumbai, and that along with Hindi are commonly used in the streets and marketplaces of Mumbai. English is like a second language for Mumbaikars and is used, not only in the streets among the locals, but also nationally, internationally, and politically.

Finally, to top off the truly unique culture of Mumbai is the exotic Indian cuisines that are consumed throughout Mumbai. Fish and coconuts are commonly used in many Mumbai dishes, as well as coconut oil. Upon eating most any platter in Mumbai, one can expect a spicy combination of spices and sauces teasing their taste buds.
